Why the F*** Did They Keep This? is a personal, reflective, irreverent, and quirky solo journaling role-playing game about sorting through the boxes of stuff a loved one has left behind. It's boxes of vinyl records or old t-shirts, packing material or newspapers, knick knacks or old photos. We are stuck with what they left behind, always balancing whether it holds enough sentimentality to keep or trash.

Why the F*** Did They Keep This? is an 18-card game that comes in a tuckbox. All the rules are located on the tuckbox panels. The only other things you need are 2 or 3 six-sided dice and some method to journal (e.g., digital, pencil and paper, voice recording).

What You Do

After deciding on some basic set-up questions (e.g., Who is this person? How did you know them?), you choose however many days you want to dig through their stuff. You shuffle up some cards, flip over the top one and roll some dice!

Each card has an object you are going to describe. The die roll tells you how many objects you are going to go through: 1, 2, or 3.

On the back of the previous object card is a table of characteristics. For each object, you will roll two dice to see what shows up. Then, you'll use those characteristics to describe the object. There are some weird ones, promise.

After you describe all of the objects, you roll a die to determine what you plan on doing with the objects. You'll write it down, reveal the next object, and continue until you run out.

That's it. Mechanically, it's a dead simple game. However, what you get out of it is what you put into it. And you can put some weird stuff into this.
